Installing U-Boot and Linux Kernel

Accessing the u-boot environment

Connect the serial cable to CYOne, set up a terminal 19200,8,n,1. Power up the CYOne, then interrupt the booting process by pressing a key. To update u-boot or kernel you will need also a TFTP server holding the files you want to update.

Loading u-boot

CYOne are coming with u-boot preloaded. If you ever need to update it, follow this procedure.
Get the new bootloader

wget -O u-boot-a370-nand-db.bin

set up the board ip address and the tftp server address

setenv ipaddr X.X.X.X
setenv serverip X.X.X.X

then load the uboot binary image

tftp 0x2000000 u-boot-a370-nand-db.bin
nand erase 0 0x100000
nand write 0x2000000 0 ${filesize}

clean up uboot settings

nand erase 0x100000 0x400000

set new environment variable

set boardbootdelay 2
set randombootdelay 1

Loading the Kernel

CYOne are coming with Linux kernel preloaded. If you want to build your own follow the instructions at Building the Linux Kernel

Or get the kernel image from Ambedded.

wget -O uImage

then execute the following to write the Kernel

tftp 0x2000000 uImage
nand erase 0x500000 0x400000
nand write 0x2000000 0x500000 ${filesize}

Booting from HDD

CYOne are booting by default to first partition of HDD/SSD. If you want to change booting device you can follow this example.

change the root argument of u-boot (example is for booting from partition 1 of disk 1, that's the standard)

 setenv bootcmd "setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/sda1 rw rootwait panic=10;nand read 0x2000000 0x500000 0x400000;bootm 0x2000000"
